However tempting it may be to rush off after a workout or eager you are to begin your workout and skip stretching, you must remember that it is almost as important as the workout itself – especially when doing a highly intense strength program like MBSFIT.
Although it won’t actually firm up your abs, burn those calories you want to burn and no immediate benefits are seen, it is for this reason that many people think it is not really necessary or can overlook just how important it is. However, in the long-run it will make your muscles more flexible and enable you to reach your goals more effectively. The MBSFIT coaches want all our members to understand the significance of stretching and be sure you are well stretched at the end of each of your sessions.
The benefits of stretching before a workout plays a major role in injury prevention. When you stretch after a workout, you benefit from both physical and psychological effects. When you work out, lactic acid builds up in your muscles which often leads to muscle soreness and fatigue; stretching after a workout helps to reduce that muscle fatigue. This is because after a workout, your muscles are warm and you benefit from increased blood circulation.
Stretching also helps your muscles to recover faster from an intense workout, reducing muscle soreness and leaving you feeling in your best form for your next training session.
As mentioned above, in addition to the physical benefits, there are also psychological benefits of stretching, which is just as important in living a full and healthy lifestyle. When you stretch after working out, your mind has a chance to tune into how your body is feeling; paying attention to any aches and pains you may have. It also is known to calm the nerves and relax the mind. The mind-body connection is of utmost importance to live a holistic fit and healthy life!
To get the most out of the stretching you do, here are some suggestions:
- Do a warm-up before a workout that stimulates the movements you’ll be doing in order to warm up and prepare your body.
- Instead of trying to stretch your whole body after every time you exercise, focus on the key areas you are training that session.
In order to encourage and motivate our members, we have created a stretch poster that covers all muscle groups focused on in the MBSFIT training program.
The chart will be displayed in our stretching area for you to refer to at all times. You will also receive an email to download a copy for your own personal use so if ever you are stretching at home, you still have the guidance from the team at MBS from afar!
